Action for Renfrew

SNP councillors Derek Mackay, Bill Perrie and Cathy McEwan are continuing to work hard for Renfrew.  Labour believe that Renfrew gets too much attention and have called on the SNP 'to do less' for the town.

Looking back, the SNP has achieved much in 3 years in administration.  Times will be much tougher going forward with UK ConDem budget cuts.

We have tried to keep residents updated through our local newsletters between elections, so here is a further update on local issues:

Renfrew Town Centre Action Plan

SNP-led Renfrewshire Council is embarking on a consultation to address concerns about the Renfrew town centre road network. Councillor Derek Mackay said:

SNP councilllors working for Renfrew"The town is attractive and has much to offer, and whilst many initiatives have supported local business from rates relief (properties valued at less than £10,000 pay nothing) to improvement grants (16 Renfrew shops benefited from this), traffic flow must also be considered closely.

"We inherited the road layout from Labour, and whilst adjustments and improved lane markings have helped, further measures to increase traffic flow at the junction without compromising pedestrian safety should follow."

A consultation will consider:

  1. Widening Hairst Street at the cross to form a two-lane approach, which should increase traffic flow and road capacity.
  2. The introduction of  'Scoot', which is an efficient and responsive method of traffic signal control to suit traffic conditions.
  3. Extending the duration of free stay at on-street car parking.
