Cllr Perrie highlights Renfrewshire Fostering Services |
|
“This report highlights the importance of adoption and fostering within
Renfrewshire and the support that this provides to vulnerable children
and families”, says Cllr Bill Perrie (SNP – Renfrew North and a member
of Renfrewshire’s Adoption and Fostering Panel).
A report to the council’s Community & Family Care Board (RVJB) [1] provides an overview of the council’s fostering and adoption procedures. This report highlighted that by 31 March 2010, 796 children were ‘looked after’ by Renfrewshire Council – including a significant number who will be unable to return home to live with their birth parents or relatives. The report also highlights the progress made in recruiting new foster carers within Renfrewshire.
Cllr Bill Perrie commented;
“To provide children with the best chance of living with families there is a need for more foster carers within Renfrewshire. The council campaign in 2010 to boost foster carers resulted in 170 enquiries, with the fostering team progressing assessments for 46 households.
“This report highlights the dedication and hard work of all council staff and panel members involved in fostering and adoption services.
“Providing a foster place for children in need of support can be a very rewarding experience and I would encourage anyone who is interested to contact the council for further information.”
